Excalidraw — Collaborative Whiteboard & Diagrams

Excalidraw is a virtual whiteboard for sketching hand-drawn diagrams and wireframes for collaborative teams.

Excalidraw is an open-source virtual whiteboard that allows teams to create hand-drawn style diagrams and wireframes for technical or creative projects. This tool is designed for software engineers, product managers, and educators who need to visualize complex ideas quickly without the rigid aesthetic of traditional CAD software. The platform provides a canvas for real-time collaboration where multiple users can sketch, annotate, and move elements simultaneously. Excalidraw features a library of pre-built shapes and the ability to import custom libraries for specific frameworks like Material Design or AWS architecture. Business owners can use it to map out customer journeys or organizational charts during live meetings. On surfai.app, we specialize in identifying tools that increase team velocity, and this tool excels at reducing the friction of visual communication. It supports end-to-end encryption for private rooms, ensuring that sensitive business brainstorms remain secure. The Mermaid-to-diagram feature even allows users to turn code into visual flowcharts instantly. Excalidraw is available for free as a web-based tool, with a paid "Plus" version for teams needing persistent cloud storage and advanced workspace management.
